Chris Puls (“Pulse”) has been training dogs and people for nearly 50 years! With regards to scentwork, she started training her Malinois ‘Dazzle’ in scentwork in 2012 and competed in UKC trials (before AKC Scentwork was even a sport).
She became a Barn Hunt Judge in 2014, shortly after that sport started and offered private training sessions for both barn hunt and scentwork in the training area at her home in Indiana. There are many cross over skills between rat hunting and essential oil hunting. She helped MANY dogs excel and helped handlers work through several training issues in both sports. And several of her students still contact her when they need training help and say they wish she would come back!
While she is no longer a Barn Hunt Judge, she became an AKC Scentwork Judge in 2016 when that sport started. She competed in the very first AKC Scentwork trial in Ohio and her 6 month old Lab ‘Voodoo’ earned his overall Novice title over the course of that 3 day weekend! Back when the buried element was actually IN THE GROUND! And since then, she has Judged many Scentwork trials in several states.
She has competed in just about every dog sport and dog activity over the years, but related to scent, she competed in UKC nosework, AKC Scentwork, CWAGS scentwork, Barn Hunt, and Rat Games. She also taught tracking, Search and Rescue, and Messenger Dog at Dog Scout Camp in addition to most of the other badge activities.
